The m3+zdf exchange program offers U.S. and German university students the unique opportunity
to study journalism and related fields in the most advanced and challenging academic environments
available. In this academic process, the students also gain first-hand insights into the culture
of the guest country while at the same time improving their practical work and language skills.
In a highly competitive, globalized economy, the study/work abroad experience and a second language has quickly become a requirement for career success and mobility.
U.S. students take German language classes in Mainz and study at Mainz University or the
Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences for one semester with credit, followed by a hands-on internship at nearby ZDF (provided requirements are met). German students, who already speak English, study at the University of Memphis or Ball State University for one year with the possibility
of a follow-on internship at Ball State. These students experience U.S. campus life and its academic
challenges, and take away with them a sense of the complexity and diversity of American society.
With the continued support of the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt and its public affairs arm, the Amerika
Haus, all institutions are committed to providing the highest quality instruction and training in a
structured, cross-cultural environment. The m3+zdf program firmly believes that these academic
experiences foster mutual understanding among young media professionals in both Germany
and the United States, in turn strengthening the ties between the two nations.
